Install the Premiere Pro panel
Optional, and takes about two minutes. The panel sends your finished track straight onto the selected clip in a couple of clicks.
What the panel is for
The tracking itself happens in your browser and never leaves your computer. The panel is simply how the finished track gets onto your clip — you load the .ftrk file it produces and click apply.
Installing
- Close Premiere Pro if it's open.
- Double-click the downloaded .ccx file. Creative Cloud opens and installs it for you.
- Start Premiere Pro and go to
Window → UXP Plugins → FaceTrack Studio.
Not Extensions — that's a different, older menu, and the panel won't be listed there. - Paste your licence key when it asks. Your key is on the
My account page, and in your welcome email. It
looks like
FT-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
That's it. The panel remembers the key on this computer, so you'll go straight to the main screen every time after this.
Using it
- Track your clip in the web tracker and click Save tracking file (.ftrk).
- In Premiere, click the clip in your timeline to select it.
- In the panel, click Load .ftrk file… and pick the file you saved.
- Click Apply to selected clip.
The keyframes land on the clip's own Motion effect and stay fully editable in Effect Controls — you can reshape, delete or ease any of them by hand afterwards, exactly like keyframes you'd made yourself. They also stay in your project permanently, even if your subscription later ends.
If something goes wrong
Creative Cloud says ".ccx is not a supported archive file format"
Your browser renamed the file on the way down, usually to .zip.
Find it in your Downloads folder and rename it so it ends in
.ccx again, then double-click it. If Windows hides file
extensions, turn on View → Show → File name extensions in
File Explorer first, or just use the manual install below.
Creative Cloud won't install it at all
Use the manual route instead — it always works and takes a minute. Download the .zip version, then:
Windows: close Premiere, paste
%APPDATA%\Adobe\UXP\Plugins\External into the File Explorer
address bar, and unzip the file there. You should end up with
External\FaceTrack-Studio\manifest.json.
macOS: close Premiere, press ⌘⇧G in Finder, go to
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP/Plugins/External, and
unzip the file there.
If you end up with FaceTrack-Studio\FaceTrack-Studio\, move the
inner folder up one level. Then start Premiere.
It's not in the Window menu
Check Window → UXP Plugins, not Window → Extensions. If it's genuinely absent, quit Premiere fully — on Windows, confirm no Adobe Premiere Pro process is left in Task Manager — then reopen. Premiere caches its plugin list at startup and won't notice a new one until it's properly restarted.
"This licence is already locked to another computer"
Each subscription runs the panel on one computer, and that lock is set the first time you activate. Using the web tracker in your browser never counts against it — only the panel does. If you need the panel on a different machine, cancel and start a new subscription on that computer.
"Couldn't reach the licence server"
Almost always a corporate firewall or VPN blocking the request. The panel
needs to reach facetrack.net. Once activated it keeps working
offline for up to 7 days, so a brief outage won't stop you mid-edit.
The keyframes went on but nothing moves
Usually a timing mismatch. If you tracked a trimmed export rather than the full source clip, tick Offset by clip in-point in the panel and apply again. Keyframe times are measured from the start of the source media, not the start of your sequence.
